Marathon Week in Harlem gave the international community of runners, their families, friends, cheering fans and local revelers an opportunity to discover Harlem’s rich cultural legacy. Patrons experienced GHCC member-driven authentic, multicultural culinary scene by dining at the iconic Sylvia's (for classic soul food), the critically acclaimed Melba's (for American comfort cuisine), the beloved Lucille's, the sophisticated Chocolat Restaurant & Bar, the vibrant Victoria Restaurant & Bar, the celebrated pies of Patsy's Pizzeria Restaurant & Bar, and the authentic West African dishes of Ponty Bistro Harlem.

The Chamber extends congratulations to the elite champions, Kenya's Hellen Obiri, who won the women's race, and Benson Kipruto, who captured the men's title. Kipruto's victory was one for the ages, securing the win by a landmark three-hundredths of a second in a breathtaking photo finish. The Chamber also congratulates GHCC Board member and Lucille's owner, Matthew Trebek, and Harlem’s dependable mail carrier, Pamela Poterfield-Smith.

The week also featured several exciting, GHCC member-driven, family-friendly activities that took place on Friday, October 31. This included the annual Pasta Night at Victoria Restaurant & Bar, the Harlem Mothers & Fathers S.A.V.E. annual Halloween Candy & Gift Giveaway, New York State Office of General Services (OGS) HARLEMWEEN event, and The City College of New York annual Scarefest. Beyond the food and fun, guests discovered local style and culture that included curated fashions at The Brownstone, custom headwear at Flamekeepers Hat Club, unique finds at The Met Store and The Schomburg Shop, contemporary art at the Claire Oliver Gallery, apparel from Notable Harlem, and exquisite hat selections from both Harlem's Heaven Hat Boutique and Hats by Bunn.

The Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce extends an invitation to discover Harlem's enduring cultural legacy and be a part of uptown’s second renaissance. To learn more, become a member, sign up for our newsletter, follow us on social media, and purchase official HARLEM WEEK merchandise
