Health & Wellness

“Healthy Eating & Healthy Living” is a year-round initiative of The Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce’s Health Committee. This initiative was created in partnership with chamber members —- hospitals, health plans, HMOs, health professionals, educational institutions, media partners, food service providers, recreational facilities, senior centers, elected officials, government agencies, and the Office of the Mayor of the City of New York.
The Chamber’s Health Committee’s goal is to provide chamber members, residents, families, workers, businesses, and students located in Upper Manhattan and beyond with information, education, and resources necessary to live healthier, happier, longer, and more productive lives. Our Chamber recognizes the multiple positive economic impacts that are derived from healthier communities. We recognize that our customer base and employees will continue to strengthen, preserve, and attract businesses to our service area.
For the past five years, The Chamber has prioritized multiple health-related issues associated with the COVID-19 pandemic that disproportionately focused its wrath on communities of color throughout the Tri-state region, the nation, and beyond. The COVID pandemic itself has negatively impacted and destroyed far too many of our chamber family, as well as our overall environment. In addition to the physical health tolls, there has also been a significant impact on the mental, emotional, physical and financial health of our members.
Since the 2020 outbreak of COVID-19 in New York City, The Chamber has hosted the Uptown Leaders Meeting on the last Thursday of each month. Originating during the pandemic, the meetings have continued at the request of U.S. Congress members, NY State Senators, Assemblymembers, Manhattan Borough Presidents, and the New York County District Attorney, in concert with The City College of New York, Carver Federal Savings Bank, Columbia University, and the Harlem Community Center, Inc. The meeting brings together key leaders in the Greater Harlem area and Manhattan to present monthly updates on key issues and matters of importance. This monthly meeting regularly attracts up to 60 representatives from federal, state, and local government; along with business, health, education, and civic leaders. For more information, please contact us at The Chamber's main office at (212) -862-7200.
With that in mind, The Chamber’s Health Committee is focused on combating the continued impact of COVID. This is not a short-term initiative and The Chamber will concentrate on preparing for other health risks in the years to come.
