In 2014 during HARLEM WEEK’s 40th Anniversary Celebration their Board of Directors announced its new initiative, the first annual HARLEM MUSIC FEST (HMF).

HMF was created to capture the people, places, rhythms and sounds coming out of Harlem’s rich music history. To commemorate those local and international iconic musicians, singers, bands, orchestras, concert halls and night clubs, and emerging and illustrious talented performers who have graced Harlem venues; and contributed to Harlem’s renowned reputation as a Mecca for entertainers, from around the world, to visit and perform.

A partial listing of the HMF performing artists and salutees includes: Audra McDonald, Alicia Keys, John Legend, Dionne Warwick, Lloyd Price, Chuck Jackson, Bishop Hezekiah Walker & the Love Fellowship Choir, Ray Chew and his All Star Band, Doug E. Fresh, Lalah Hathway, Jonathan Baptise, National Jazz Museum in Harlem All Stars, Valerie Simpson, Mama Foundation Gospel for Teens, NJPAC/Well Fargo’s Jazz for Teens, The Salvation Army Phil Ramone’s Youth Orchestra, Broadway musicals “Amazing Grace,” “The Color Purple,” and music salutes to Berry Gordy, Ben E. King, B.B. King, Kenny Gamble & Leon Huff and Ornette Coleman.

Come out and feel the positive vibes. Celebrate HMF events and witness the extraordinary trail blazing musical contributions artists of color have made locally and globally.
